The Yankees are returning a familiar face for their revamped bullpen.
New York signs RHP Jonathan Loaisiga according to ESPN’s Jorge Castillo. The contract will reportedly have a team option for 2026.
The right-hander was pursued by a number of teams, including the Mets, Padres, Rangers and Blue Jays, but ultimately decided to return to the Bronx.
Loaisiga, 30, missed most of the 2024 season due to surgery to repair a torn UCL. The reliever did not undergo Tommy John surgery, but instead underwent internal brace surgery to shorten his recovery time. He underwent surgery in April to be ready for spring training.
Unfortunately, Loaisig’s career has been hampered by injuries in recent years. He played just 17 games in 2023, but completed more than 50 games in 2021-22.
The Nicaraguan native was limited to just three appearances last season, allowing seven hits and one walk over four innings while striking out three batters.
Loaisiga has a 3.44 ERA and has played in 163 games over his seven-year career, all with the Yankees.
