Yankees have no plans to pursue Anthony Rizzo reunion, Gleyber Torres: report

The Yankees appear ready to move on from two of their starting outfielders.

As things stand, New York has no plans to continue either Anthony Rizzo or Gleyber Torres YES Network’s Jack Curry in free agency this offseason said Monday night on the Yankee Hot Stove.

Both players have expressed interest in returning at the end of the season, but it seems the club has other plans.

Rizzo served as a solid leader and steady left-handed bat during his three years in the Big Apple, but his offensive production eventually dipped as he battled the injury bug each of the last two seasons.

The Yankees could turn things around with the youngsters Ben Rice at first base, or they could make a big splash with someone like the former Mets slugger Pete Alonso or triple Gold Glover Christian Walker on the free agent market as his replacement.

Torres has also enjoyed his share of big moments in streaks, but his flashy bat, questionable base running and shaky outfield defense have left much to be desired over the years.

If things don’t change, Curry said he’d be willing to gamble on the 24-year-old top prospect Caleb Durbin will be part of the Yankees’ Opening Day roster, and there’s a chance he could find himself in the mix as Torres’ replacement.

Durbin was recently added to the 40-man roster and during Arizona Fall League action, he shined with two doubles, a triple, five homers and 29 stolen bases in 21 games.
