A woman described a babysitting experience on Reddit and listed three reasons why she shouldn’t pay for a new phone.

A woman is facing a holiday crisis after she and her mother-in-law are arguing over who should pay for the mobile phone bill.
The woman explained in a post on Reddit’s popular forum “Am I The A——” that her mother-in-law was looking after her and her husband’s 18-month-old child when she gave the child her phone. see YouTube. However, this turned out not to be the best idea.
“Ours [little one] thought he was done, and threw the phone from his high chair, cracking the screen badly,” the woman wrote.
Following this incident, her mother-in-law requested that she and her husband “pay to repair their phone screen as our daughter broke it.” However, this woman refused for three reasons, including that her mother-in-law was more wealthy than her.
“The repair cost is a lot of money for us, but not for him. The money we earn together is less than half of what he earns alone,” he added.

He also said that “they weren’t in charge” of the child at the time and “shouldn’t be held accountable.” He also said that it was his mother-in-law’s decision to give the child a phone and “it was not requested by us” and it is not “something we ever do ourselves.”
The woman said her partner “encouraged” her mother to pay for the phone and she would “pay him” gradually. However, he said his mother-in-law “refused because they think this is our issue to understand.”
“I also don’t agree with us to give him back, the phone was broken because of his carelessness,” he said, before asking Reddit if he was wrong.

Several people on Reddit supported the woman, noting that her mother-in-law should not have given the child a phone.
Someone said that the phone is “a fragile thing, not a child’s toy.” The Redditor added, “I don’t give things to 18-month-olds that I don’t want to see thrown…that might break or hurt.”
One person wrote: “The person who cares for the child and/or the person who provided the valuable piece of electrical equipment (which was never intended for use by a small child) is 100% responsible for the damage.”
Another said that the woman’s mother-in-law “knowing that they caused the situation with their bad decisions. He handed the phone to your son. He has to deal with the expected consequences.”
