The iconic ruby slippers worn by Judy Garland in “The Wizard of Oz” sold for $32.5 million at an auction in Dallas, Texas, on Saturday, December 7, becoming the auction house’s ‘most valuable movie memorabilia.’ he said.
Pictures and images released by Dallas-based auction house Heritage Auctions show multiple bids were placed before the slippers were snapped up for $28 million on Saturday afternoon. Including the buyer’s fee, the buyer’s commission, the slips were sold for a total of $32.5 million.
One of four surviving pairs worn by Garland, the slippers sold on Saturday were stolen from the Judy Garland Museum in Minnesota in 2005, before an FBI investigation found them in 2018.

Speaking to reporters, Mr. Robert Wilonsky, vice president at the auction house, said he estimated the slippers would fetch $3 million or more – online bidding opened last month and, on Friday, had reached $550,000.
