‘More Freedom’: Why Joe Rogan Left LA For A $14.4 Million Holiday on Lake Austin

Joe Rogan’s move from Southern California to his Lake Austin estate in 2020 marked more than just a change of scenery for the controversial podcaster.

The $14.4 million building, with 300 meters of lake frontage and custom-built podcast studios, has become the centerpiece of his expanding media empire – especially since he signed a $250 million deal for Spotify earlier this year, allowing distribution of the platform.

Don’t miss:

According to a report by Realtor.com, the 11,000-square-foot waterfront mansion sits on four acres of parkland facing unreserved land. Built in 2008, this property has eight beds, ten baths and extensive amenities, including three docks, a pool and multiple terraces. Instagram posts seen by Realtor show Rogan’s additions, including a sauna, hot tub and recording facilities.

The move coincided with Rogan’s first $100 million deal for Spotify, though his influence extended beyond business. “Everything is closed, everything is still closed,” Rogan recalled of the California epidemic. A visit to the restaurant by Austin and his children showed why. “Shouldn’t we wear a mask? Can we eat at the restaurant?” He remembered them asking. “Two months later, I’m sitting here.”

Rogan’s custom podcast studio inside the house has hosted many famous guests, from tech mogul Elon Musk to former President Donald Trump, whose talk for the past three hours has attracted a large audience.

Despite slipping to third place in Apple’s podcast sources behind “The Daily” and “Crime Junkie,” Rogan still holds Spotify’s top spot.

The area’s location, close to downtown Austin, offers privacy for celebrities – sharing the neighborhood with stars like Sandra Bullock, according to the report. Interior features include a formal dining room with built-ins, a two-island kitchen, living areas with floor-to-ceiling windows and dedicated office space.

By 2022, Rogan had fully embraced the Texas lifestyle, citing the state’s “more freedom” compared to the West Coast. His February 2024 contract renewal with Spotify, adding distribution to YouTube and Apple, shows that Austin’s decision has paid off professionally as well as in public satisfaction.
