Aurora has not been widely released, but reports suggest that it has fewer limitations than it produces.
For a few hours on Saturday, some users of Elon Musk’s X reported finding Aurora, a new, more photorealistic image generator powered by Musk’s artificial intelligence model, Grok.
While the Aurora has not been widely released – and some users who reported that they were able to find it later said that their Grok has reverted to its old model, the Flux – a brief overview of the new model gave a first insight into how it compares to its predecessor and competitors. .
The proposed generation of Aurora is a notable development from Grok’s Flux model and looks to compete with the emergence of other models such as OpenAI’s DALL·E 3.
TechCrunch reported Aurora’s beta version – like Flux’s – seems to have a few design problems, and in a short test it produced images of copyrighted characters like Mickey Mouse and the general public, including an image of “Donald Trump with blood,” but “standing naked.” In testing by Business Insider , Grok’s Flux version also created Mickey Mouse images but refused to create any violent images.
On X, users who have access to the model shared photos of Aurora creations, including pictures of Ray Romano and Adam Sandler on the sitcom set and Musk boxing with OpenAI CEO Sam Altman.
Although the images received praise on the Internet for their quality and authenticity, there was still some evidence that they were AI-generated, such as unusual proportions in the hands and arms and a strange smoothness to some facial features and skin.
“X AI just released one of the best images on Saturday at 2am… @xai y’all are built differently,” Guillaume Verdon, founder of the AI startup Extropic and of the active accelerationism movement, supports AI growth and. development without guardrails or regulation, he wrote in a post tagging xAI, Musk’s artificial intelligence company that created Grok.
Musk responded to Verdo, who goes by Based Beff Jezos online, saying, “It’s just a beta version, but it will improve quickly.”
X representatives did not immediately respond to Business Insider’s request.
