The California Division of Forestry and Fireplace Safety mentioned the mountain wildfire west of Coalinga grew quickly in its first hours.
Sep. 3, the Boone Fireplace broke out off Freeway 198 round 1 p.m. Tuesday. By 7 p.m., 3,000 acres had burned, and by Wednesday morning it was estimated at 8,500 acres (13.3 sq. miles), Calfire mentioned.
A 100-square-mile stretch of the sparsely populated space of the southern Diablo Vary in Fresno County was ordered to evacuate Wednesday morning. Freeway 198 is closed between Freeway 25 and Coalinga.
