Transformers fans have expressed their dismay over Elon Musk expressing interest in buying Hasbro, the company that currently owns the rights to the franchise.
Musk, who was hired in Donald Trump’s administration after helping him win the US election, has laughed off the purchase of Hasbro after contradicting comments from Jason Tondro, a product lead at one of Hasbro’s properties. Dungeons and Dragons.
This comes just days after Musk and Donald Trump Jr joked about the Tesla CEO buying MSNBC.
On November 22, Musk responded to the front with Tondro in the 40th Anniversary book “Making of D&D”, where they tried to remove themselves from the elements of the original game, created by E Gary Gygax and make it more coherent.
After seeing this on X/Twitter, Musk did not do this, writing: “No one, and I mean no one, rejects E Gary Gygax and the geniuses who created it. Dungeons & Dragons. What the f*** is wrong with Hasbro and WoTC [Wizards of the Coast]?? Let them burn in hell.”
Tondro was later asked about Musk’s push, admitting that he was surprised by the criticism, believing that the backlash would come from “progressives and people from underrepresented groups offended by the language of OD&D”.
Regarding Musk, Tondro said: “I don’t take that criticism seriously even now. I see those people as not worth listening to, so I didn’t imagine their ‘anger’.”
After being informed about this, Musk said openly: “How much is Hasbro?” According to Forbesshares in Hasbro are currently worth $63.89.
Hasbro has his own Dungeons and Dragons since 1997, and although it is not clear that Musk is really serious about buying the company if he gets it he will end up owning many other toys and games including Star Wars, Ghostbusters, My Little Pony, Peppa Pig and Pokemon, just to name a few.
There has been push back to this idea from fans in the Transformers community, who are not happy with the idea of Musk owning the property.
Responding to Musk’s interest in Hasbro, one fan said: “HIT UP HE’S NOT THE BEST PART, TRANSFORMERS IS DOWN HASBRO. CAN ELON MUSK HAVE TRANSFORMS? F***ING NOOOOOOOOOOO.”
Someone said: “The idea of Elon Musk buying Hasbro and adding Transformers is a terrible idea.”
A third said: “Elon Musk better not buy Hasbro and destroy Transformers.”
The Independent caught up with Elon Musk and Hasbro to talk.
Transformers Onewhich was published by Hasbro, is the latest film released under the franchise. Despite critical acclaim, the film, starring Chris Hemsworth and Scarlett Johansson, struggled at the box office.
