The Kremlin, while Trump is calling for peace talks in Ukraine, says Moscow is open to negotiations on other terms

MOSCOW (Reuters) – The Kremlin said on Sunday Russia was open to talks on Ukraine after US President-elect Donald Trump called for an “urgent cessation of hostilities”.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said that peace talks should be based on the agreements reached in Istanbul in 2022 and on what is happening on the battlefield.

Peskov noted that Ukraine has banned communication with the Russian leadership through a special clause that he said would have to be removed if talks continue.

“Our position on Ukraine is well known; the conditions for an immediate cessation of hostilities were set by President Putin in his speech to the Russian Foreign Ministry in June of this year. It is important to remember that it was Ukraine that refused and continues to refuse negotiations,” said Peskov.
