The I-15 freeway was temporarily closed as police stopped a large group of motorcyclists

SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) – Authorities stopped a large group of motorcyclists Thursday night on Interstate 15 for a “moving violation,” the San Diego Police Department confirmed. The incident happened in the Serra Mesa area near Aero Drive.

An SDPD spokesman said the motorcyclists “failed to yield,” prompting a traffic stop. When the drivers stopped, it is said that they did not do this while on the shoulder of the road. Instead, police said the riders blocked traffic, which is why the northbound lane was temporarily closed.

The freeway reopened a short time later, although some lanes were closed for about two hours due to the response. Due to the number of motorcyclists stopped, additional police officers were called to assist. An SDPD spokesperson confirmed that the traffic stop resulted in three arrests for felony warrants and “weapons-related offenses.”

No further information was given by the police.
