Strong winds from Storm Bert have uprooted trees and caused travel disruption in Kent.
Officials have warned that disruption to rail, road, air and ferry services is likely, as well as damage to buildings, power outages and risks to life.
Train services remain disrupted after a fallen tree blocked the line at Penshurst at 10:15 GMT.
Services between Redhill and Tonbridge were suspended, but the tree was soon removed and the line reopened.
“We are working to restore services but this will take time,” a Southern spokesperson said at 13:00.
The Met Office has issued a yellow wind warning until 21:00 GMT, with winds of up to 50 mph (80km/h) expected in some areas.
The South East said bad weather had also caused disruption between Sevenoaks and Tunbridge.
The Port of Dover said the “bad” sea conditions in the English Channel were caused by the force of the south westerly eight winds.
“Visibility is poor, but freight and tourists are moving normally,” the spokesman said.

Meanwhile, Kent Fire and Rescue Service said it had been receiving a number of calls about trees falling onto roads during Storm Bert.
“Unless it’s an emergency, please call Kent County Council for local roads, or for cars call National Highways South East who will be able to help,” the spokesman said.
Due to bad weather, Canterbury Cathedral and its grounds blocked the sun.
Worship services will continue to be held, with entry through the Postern Gate and up the Dean’s Steps, a cathedral spokesman said.
‘Dangerous sea conditions’
The festive fair at Margate lifeboat station, to be held on Sunday, has been rescheduled for December 1 due to the weather.
The Met Office said strong winds were likely to cause “dangerous coastal conditions”.
Officials warned of a small chance of injury from flying debris and from high tides and beach items thrown onto beaches, coastal roads and buildings.
More than 200 flood warnings are in place across the UK, while around 350,000 homes have lost power, although many have been reconnected.
