On Thursday, Stanley announced its voluntary recall of 2.6 million travel gigs due to valve malfunction. According to the recall shared by the US Consumer Product Safety Commission, the straps on the covers of the Switchback and Trigger Action mugs “may wear out when exposed to heat and torque, causing the cover to close during use, posing a risk of burns.”
The recall comes after Stanley received 91 reports of the valves closing during use worldwide, including 16 in the United States. So far, 38 burn injuries have been reported, two of which occurred in the United States And, 11 cases worldwide require treatment.
The recall applies to 12- and 16-ounce sizes of Switchback mugs and 12-, 16- and 20-ounce sizes of Trigger Action mugs. The cabins were double-walled and came in a variety of colors including white, black, and green. The drink was sold at Amazon, Walmart, Dick’s Sporting Goods, Target, and other retail stores from June 2016 to December 2024.
In a statement announcing the recall, Stanley asked all customers who “currently have Switchback or Trigger Action travel mugs to stop using these products.” The brand is also offering a replacement cover for those affected, all they have to do is check their model using the interactive check below the recall. The forum asks for the entry of the identification number of the mug (which can be found on the base) and the retail store where it was purchased.
