A new health club with pickleball courts, batting cages and fitness facilities will open next year on David Street in the South End.
The new tenant is Southeast Sportsplex Health and Fitness Club. The club will also have golf simulators, basketball and sports-specific training as well as camps, clinics and group classes with opportunities for all ages and abilities to accommodate 250 people in the resort.
The team will also complement the South End Baseball League and other leagues around the city, and will have facilities that can help improve athletic performance during the winter months. There will also be health club maintenance and storage space.
Waterfront Mill Redevelopment District
This project falls within the Waterfront Mill Redevelopment District zone which calls for “reuse of mill buildings.”
Once the building permit is granted, the goal is to complete construction within two to three months.

The Planning Board does not foresee parking being a problem. No parking will be permitted north of David Street at the intersection with East Rodney French Boulevard, where restrictions are in place.
Located at 11 David St., the building is currently used as an industrial factory operating as North East Silicon Technologies, a company that recycles silicon wafers for the semiconductor industry. The building was previously used to manufacture freezer panels. It is surrounded by other mill buildings.
The Planning Board voted in favor of the project. Councilor for Ward 6, Ryan Pereira, said he thinks that the reuse of the area.
“I think that the resort, especially in this area, will be of great benefit to the community and the city as a whole,” he said.
