Shanahan reveals why 49ers QB Purdy left practice originally appeared on NBC Sports Bay Area
Brock Purdy’s status for Sunday’s game against the Green Bay Packers became even more unclear after the 49ers quarterback abruptly left Thursday’s practice while dealing with a shoulder injury.
Coach Kyle Shanahan clarified the reason for Purdy’s sudden departure Thursday afternoon during an interview with KNBR’s Adam Copeland.
“He was still limited today, so he didn’t do as much yesterday,” Shanahan told Copeland. “He did a little bit more today, but he wasn’t doing his normal workload by any means. He went out there and did a little bit, then came back about halfway through, rested his arm and continued to rehab. Hopefully he’ll feel it.” great on Sunday.”
While Purdy’s limited designation helps explain his withdrawal Thursday, there is still plenty of uncertainty as to whether the 24-year-old will be able to start Sunday’s key NFC game at Lambeau Field.
The 49ers’ offense struggled mightily in a 20-17 loss to the Seattle Seahawks over the weekend, with San Francisco recording its fewest yards since Week 6 of the 2023 NFL season.
Could Purdy’s shoulder injury have contributed to the 49ers’ offensive woes against the Seahawks? Shanahan doesn’t believe it.
No, I don’t think so,” Shanahan said. “I think just the soreness and warming up on the sideline and the things you talked about, but as far as his throwing, I didn’t see anything that looked different. and he didn’t complain about it in any way, so I felt good.
Sitting at 5-5 heading into the key stretch, San Francisco can’t afford to be without its No. 1 quarterback. 1 in any game series, but especially in the looming back-to-back matchups with Green Bay and the Buffalo Bills.
