It shouldn’t come as much of a surprise given how dominant his season has been, but Scottie Scheffler made even more PGA Tour history on Tuesday.
Scheffler has officially won his third straight Player of the Year award, the Tour announced Tuesday night. He is now the first golfer since Tiger Woods nearly two decades ago to win the award in three consecutive seasons.
Only Scheffler and Woods have won the award in three consecutive seasons. Woods won the award 11 times in his career, most recently in 2013 and five times in a row from 1999-2003. Rory McIlroy has also won it three times, most recently in 2019, although there was at least one season between his wins each time.
The Tour Player of the Year award is decided by a member vote. Scheffler received 91% of the votes from other golfers. McIlroy and Xander Schauffele were also nominated.
“On behalf of the PGA Tour, I congratulate Scottie Scheffler on a truly historic season, capped off by his first FedExCup title and today his third consecutive Jack Nicklaus PGA Tour Player of the Year award,” commissioner Jay Monahan said in a statement. “Scottie has taken on challenges from the world’s best players on the biggest stages all season long, and to be honored as PGA Tour Player of the Year is the ultimate mark of respect from his peers.”

Scheffler did not miss a single cut during his 19 starts on Tour, and that was in September. Scheffler also won the unofficial Hero World Challenge in the Bahamas last week.

In the midst of his victories, before the second round. Scheffler was trying to run onto the golf course before the second round of the tournament, though the scene outside the Kentucky course was chaotic after a bus hit and killed a salesman around 5:00 a.m. The officer pulled Scheffler out of the car and arrested him, but Scheffler was booked and released in time to make his planned getaway. He then posted a score of 5 under, which was the second best score of the day. The charges were eventually dropped.
The 2025 PGA Tour season will officially begin in January at The Sentry in Hawaii, the first of eight signature events. Scheffler has played in the event in each of the past two seasons – finishing T5 last season – but it’s still unclear if Scheffler will be in the field next month.
