It could be another shot in the cold war that has turned heated between the Jets and quarterback Aaron Rodgers.
Days after reports surfaced that Jets owner Woody Johnson suggested benching Rodgers after the Week 4 loss to the Broncos, TheAthletic.com’s Dianna Russini reports that Rodgers, who 10 days ago said he wanted to play in in 2025, he doesn’t want to play for the Jets in 2025.
And so lays the groundwork for Rodgers’ two-pronged media assault after the bye. Pat McAfee and AJ Hawk will ask Rodgers about it on Tuesday. Rodgers will grumble and mumble about media leaks before perhaps saying anything of substance when asked if he wants to play for the Jets in the future or now. Then, on Wednesday, he will have his usual press conference where he may (or may not) be asked pointed and repeated questions about the latest developments and news.
Regardless, it’s becoming increasingly clear that it’s over for the Jets and Rodgers. The only question that remains is whether he will be placed on the injured reserve, whether he will be on the bench, whether he will play the string and whether he will be cut.
With the Giants releasing Daniel Jones, Rodgers might want the same thing — if they’re considering benching him. Perhaps in what would be his last act de facto GM, Rodgers can also release receiver Davante Adams.
