The Red Sox have agreed to a one-year, $10.75 million contract with left-hander Aroldis Chapman, ESPN’s Jeff Passan reports. The completion of the transaction is waiting for the physical, for Passan.
Boston brass has insisted this offseason that it will take action after missing the postseason for the third year in a row, and the team’s first step appears to be fixing the problem.
Chapman, 36, posted a 3.79 ERA in 61.2 innings last season with the Pittsburgh Pirates. The Red Sox will be his fifth team in four years.
