Penguins 2024 second round pick traded to Calgary in CHL deal

One of the Pittsburgh Penguins top prospects appears to have been involved in a major CHL transaction.

Forward Tanner Howe — the Penguins’ 46th overall pick in the 2024 NHL Entry Draft — was traded by the Regina Pats along with Corbin Vaughn to the Calgary Hitmen for Keets Fawcett, Reese Hamilton, three picks and an unnamed prospect on Wednesday.

The move will not affect Howe’s NHL rights, which remain in Pittsburgh.

The Pats appear to be moving toward building their draft and prospect pools while Calgary looks to fill out their roster. In 10 games with the Pats this season, Howe has six goals and seven points.

Howe, who captained the Pats, signed his three-year entry-level contract with the Penguins this summer and has totaled 98 goals and 240 points in 217 WHL games. He attended his first Penguins training camp this preseason.
