One person dead after ‘active shooter’ leads to US Army lockdown in eastern Georgia

One person is dead after an “active shooter” and lockdown at a US Army installation in eastern Georgia on Saturday morning.

Fort Eisenhower officials say the victim was shot and killed inside the home. The identity of that person has not been released.

The shooter was arrested and a spokesman for Fort Eisenhower says the incident “appears to be an isolated incident.”

They did not release the suspect’s identity or possible motives.

Officials posted on the official news page that they were starting lockdown measures at 9am

About an hour later, officials said the “dangerous event” had passed and the lockdown had been lifted.

“Fort Eisenhower is supporting the victim’s family and assistance will be available to anyone affected by this tragedy. The safety of our residents and staff remains our top priority,” a spokesperson wrote in a statement.

At first they told those who are “at risk” to “take appropriate action.”

A spokesperson for the post told WJBF-TV that there was a “threat” and no one was allowed to access or delete the post. The gates were opened.

Fort Eisenhower is located near Augusta.
