NYPD releases 2 new photos of man wanted in UnitedHealthcare CEO murder

The New York City Police Department on Saturday released two new photos of the man wanted in the slaying of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson.

The photos are the latest in a series by the NYPD of a single person wanted for questioning in Wednesday’s killing.

The person can be seen in one of the images through the partition of what appears to be a New York City taxi, wearing a blue medical mask and a black hoodie.

The NYPD said investigators were able to track some of his movements by taxi.

During the investigation into Thompson’s killing and the manhunt for the gunman on Saturday, three people familiar with the investigation told NBC News that there was no immediate identification of a person of interest.

A combined $60,000 reward is being offered by the FBI, Crime Stoppers and NYPD for information leading to the arrest of the shooter.

Thompson was shot outside the New York Hilton Midtown hotel while attending a UnitedHealth Group investor meeting on Wednesday morning, officials said.

Thompson was shot once in the back and once in the right calf. He was not traveling safely.

“Based on the evidence we have so far, it appears that the victim was targeted,” Joseph Kenny, the NYPD’s chief of detectives, said earlier this week. “But at this point, we don’t know why.”

New York State Police spokeswoman Jessica Tisch said on Wednesday that “the attack was premeditated, planned.”

Shell casings found at the scene had the words “refuse,” “delay” and “depose” on them, police said.

Police also found a gray bag in Central Park that the person of interest was carrying at the time of the murder. Authorities were checking to see if it was the same bag, two law enforcement officials told NBC News.

A cell phone was found by police near the scene, and investigators are trying to use it to learn more about the man’s whereabouts and whereabouts, two people familiar with the probe said.

Four sources familiar with the investigation told NBC News on Saturday that no gun was found in the bag. Three sources said there was a jacket in the bag, but it is not yet clear if it was the jacket the gunman was wearing at the time of the shooting.

Officials say the man being sought in connection with the killing may have left the country.

Kenny told reporters that the video shows the man riding a bicycle in Central Park, then taking a taxi to the Port Authority bus station near the George Washington Bridge.

Investigators are looking for another video to see if he got on the bus from there, and if so which one.

Police believe he may have traveled to New York City from Atlanta last month on a Greyhound bus, three law enforcement officials familiar with the matter told NBC News. The bus arrived in New York on November 24, after making several stops along the way, he said.

Authorities in New York are looking to find the name used on the Nov. 24 ride, and Atlanta and Greyhound police are assisting in the investigation.

While in New York, the man stayed in a hostel on Manhattan’s Upper West Side, the NYPD said at a press conference Friday. Authorities are working to determine if he paid in cash and used a fake ID to rent the house there.

Hostel residents said he kept his mask on at all times, even when he was eating, only pulling it down to bite, the NYPD said.

Thompson’s wife, Paulette Thompson, told NBC News on Wednesday that her husband had been receiving threats, but was not specific about their nature.

“There were other threats,” he said. “Really, I don’t know, lack of cover? I don’t know the words. I only know that he said there were other people who were threatening him.”
