McDonald’s Is No Longer Serving This Menu Item At Some Locations—Here’s Why

A few weeks after the E. coli linked to onions on McDonald’s Quarter Pounders, the popular restaurant is facing another setback—this time it’s related to its top-selling beverage line.

According to CBS News, hot and cold lattes may not be on the menu for up to three weeks due to a defect in the $3,000 machine used to make the espresso drinks.

Melitta, the manufacturer of the machines in question, said in a statement to the owners of the restaurant, at The Wall Street Journalthat they recommended a temporary pause in their use “to strictly maintain safety.”

“We are investigating the two affected devices. Our goal is to find the cause and provide a repair plan that will allow us to continue,” the statement read.

Melitta is said to have informed the restaurant’s owners that they will be investigating a fault that could cause “an explosion of air, breaking a piece.”

In a separate statement, McDonald’s said they “immediately stopped these devices in McDonald’s restaurants and are continuing to contact our supplier to resolve this issue,” CBS reported, saying they “still see the extent of the error.” .”

While burgers may be the first thing that comes to mind when people hear the word “McDonald’s,” the chain sells about 8 million cups of coffee a day, even launching a spinoff restaurant called CosMc’s last year that focuses on coffee and other specialty beverages. .
