Marathon’s Detroit refinery union workers vote to support wage deal

(Reuters) – Teamster members working at Marathon Petroleum’s Detroit refinery have voted to ratify a seven-year contract, three months after workers walked off the job, the union said on Sunday, in a statement on X.

More than 200 Teamsters at Marathon’s Detroit refinery had called for a strike on Sept. 4 after months of payment and negotiations regarding safety and interaction with the cleaner are fruitless. The first contract expired in January 2024.

Marathon Petroleum could not be reached for comment outside of business hours.

Marathon representatives and the Teamsters held several talks under a union mediator as workers went on strike.

The 140,000 barrel-per-day (bpd) Detroit refinery is one of Marathon’s 13 refineries with a total of 2.9 million bpd of crude oil refining.
