Joe Biden should cancel Thanksgiving. MAGA and non-MAGA cannot break bread.

Today I am calling on President Joe Biden to do the right thing for America and officially cancel Thanksgiving this year.

After the presidential election, the last thing we should be doing is walking into a potentially volatile mind-set that often features alcohol, long-term family feelings and easy-to-throw pies.

Maybe we can try it again next year, but this year, it’s good for everyone, let’s just stay at home with our close family and friends and see if we can get through the day without getting angry.

You’d think your MAGAA brothers would be happy. They are not.

It makes sense to encourage those on the winning side ‒ MAGA fanatics, complaining Trump supporters and people who haven’t really been paying attention for the past 10 years – to be as happy as they want to see Donald Trump win. That doesn’t seem to be the case, however.

The social media posts I see from them, as well as the usual MAGA missives I receive, are just as rude as ever.

Concepts: I had no idea that Trump would do the outrageous things he said he would do. What is it?

It’s almost as if the majority of people have become addicted to the dopamine rush of anger, so much so that they can’t celebrate the success of a man who keeps feeding them things to feel angry about.

It’s a real secret.

And it’s not like the freebies are in high spirits this Thanksgiving, either

Liberals like me, along with liberals and conservatives who know a problem when they see one, are equally outraged. And fear. And stumble.

I, for one, wish I could pull myself up by the seat of my pants and, as Dr. Seuss, give me a “very sad, sad look back” and fly like The Lorax. I tried to warn you all, and you didn’t listen. So I’m out.

Concepts: Republicans need to stop Trump from using the time off. They asked for this.

Alas, Seuss wrote a fairy tale and I’m not flying anywhere, not at a table full of people to eat turkey next to people who vote for Trump.

What is wrong, I believe, is that what is at issue here is culture, not monetary policy or the conflict between “big and small government”.

I don’t like breaking bread with people who don’t agree with my personality

If you vote for a convicted and convicted rapist who wants to round up millions of people and put them in concentration camps, he thinks transgender people shouldn’t exist, so we don’t have a common ground to chat about putting things together. and pumpkin pie.

My ears are ringing from the loud and right call that people like me need to “better understand Trump voters.” But I can’t shake the fact that no Trump voter has ever been asked to understand me, or even try for that matter.

No one is telling them to spend time with a family with a transgender child and understand the hurt that comes from the cruelty of ignorance.

No one is telling them to meet migrants who have fled gang violence and other death and risked everything to get here.

No one is asking them to try or try to understand why issues like diversity and inclusion are ethical and really it matters to people.

That just doesn’t happen. In the nearly decade-long tenure of Trump, it has always been a one-way street.

So if anyone who lives on that street is coming to Thanksgiving, count me out.

Imagine the dangers that could happen at the Thanksgiving table this year

Every Thanksgiving dinner table in every home in America is a rooster or a glass of wine away from the caring Cousin Eddy or great-aunt Martha or the hot-tempered niece or nephew home from college bringing politics. And how do you think it will happen?

“Well, I’m glad Trump won. Now grocery prices will go down!”

“How do you see yourself, cousin?” Do you think recruiting immigrants will lower the price of milk?”

“We have to save America!”

“THE CRIME IS DOWN FOR GOD’S SAKE! MY POLITICAL SCIENCE PROFESSOR SAID…”

And before you know it the dog is hiding behind the bed, the grandma is crying, there’s an overturned gear boat and a scattered finger-pointer, and one of the candles has melted and spilled the wax into the damn pecan pie. Cousin Eddy then wakes up to watch Fox News, a college kid posts a video of everything on TikTok and everyone is more upset than they were the day before.

Please, President Biden. Please cancel this year’s Thanksgiving.

No thank you!

President Biden, if America has any hope of unity, you must cancel this Thanksgiving. Call it. Take the loss. Let’s gather next year and see if we can get another wind.

Being together when we’re apart is like smoking a cigarette over a turkey dinner. You can get away with it, but it’s a better bet that it won’t end well.
