Jacksonville police crack down on dangerous bike and pedestrian traffic

The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office says it is cracking down on dangerous bicycling and pedestrian behavior in the city.

According to a social media post, 48 cyclists and pedestrians have died in accidents, so far this year.

Starting Monday, you should expect to see more police in high-traffic areas.

JSO has the following reminders for you:

  • Stay on the right side of the road and go with the flow of traffic.

  • Walk in the bike lane if there is one.

  • Obey all traffic signs, stop signs, and yield signs as you would when driving a car.

  • Watch out for pedestrians when crossing your path.

  • If you are turning, use hand signals.

  • Make sure you have a white light on the front of your bike and a red light on the back. These lights should be used from sunset to sunset.
