Israel’s Netanyahu has ordered a stay in the corruption trial after a delayed retrial

JERUSALEM (AP) – An Israeli court on Tuesday ordered Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to stand trial next week in his long-running corruption trial, ending delays.

Netanyahu’s lawyers filed motions to stop the testimony, arguing first that the war in Gaza prevented him from properly preparing his testimony, and then that his safety could not be guaranteed in court.

In Tuesday’s ruling, the judges of the Jerusalem district court said that following a security investigation, his evidence will be sent to the Tel Aviv district court. A spokesperson for the court confirmed that the session will take place in the basement.
