When Apple released iOS 18.1 last month, it delivered the first Apple Intelligence features to compatible iPhones — both the iPhone 16s and iPhone 15 Pros.

The most hyped of these Apple Intelligence features was “notification notifications,” which condense the many notifications you get from an app into one that summarizes them all. In this way, a quick look on your iPhone Lock Screen can get you up to date quickly.

The concept of abstracts makes sense. In practice, however, it can be more confusing than helpful. (Check out The Verge‘s article to see the most often funny of these summaries.)

If you have an iPhone 16 or iPhone 15 Pro and you find these notification briefs are doing more harm than good, you can turn them off.

How to turn off short notices

  1. Open the Settings app on your iPhone.

  2. Scroll down and select Notifications.

  3. Select Shorten Previews and turn it off.

If you don’t want to turn off short notifications at all, but for specific applications, you can do it from this screen as well. Just leave Quick View turned on and then uninstall the apps you don’t need.

Notification summary is a feature of any Apple device that supports Apple Intelligence. This includes any Mac or iPads with Apple silicon. You can turn it off on those devices through Settings, too.
