HALIFAX – Former Halifax Mayor Mike Savage has been sworn in as Nova Scotia’s 34th lieutenant governor.
Savage was installed during a ceremony today in the Nova Scotia Legislature.
Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced Savage’s appointment as Nova Scotia’s deputy king in October.
He replaces Arthur J. LeBlanc, who has held the position since 2017 and performed his last official function Thursday when he presided over the swearing-in of the provincial government’s new cabinet.
Savage served 12 years as mayor of Atlantic Canada’s largest city and announced in February that he would not seek re-election.
Before becoming mayor, Savage served seven years as the MP for the federal riding of Dartmouth-Cole Harbour.
