When deciding on a Sunday and Monday start, remember that you will have more matchup information than usual. By the time we get to Sunday, four NFL games will have been completed, which can help you break some fantasy ties as you decide whether going up or down is more important to your final decision.
Here’s a traffic light message to help you out.
✅ Green light
Ladd McConkey in the Falcons
He caught all six of his targets against Baltimore while Quentin Johnston went 0-for-5 and mixed in some drops. It’s shocking to me that McConkey hasn’t seen double figures in any game yet, but this feels like a week where the Chargers are heading toward their most reliable target. Justin Herbert will have plenty of time; the Atlantic Pass does not exist.
RB Bucky Irving in Panthers
You get a little worried about Tampa Bay’s crowded backfield. Rachaad White will always have a role, and even Sean Tucker scored last week, but Irving has the best metrics of the bunch and has started to become a major player. And the Panthers, as you know, are a dream matchup for running backs in 2024. Start Irving with confidence.
Saints QB Matthew Stafford
These days, he’s a lock for 250 yards and two touchdowns, with upside for more. With Puka Nacua and Cooper Kupp healthy again, this is a transition game to hang your hat on.
TE Taysom Hill vs. Rams
Obviously it doesn’t offer any floor, but that’s not unusual. But we know Hill is the strongest option the Saints have, and New Orleans’ offensive line has quietly worked its way back to full health in recent weeks.

🫤 Yellow light
RB Gus Edwards at Falcons
If you want juicy YPC, look elsewhere. If you want to get a job, we can’t help you. However, Edwards has goal line composure and I suspect the short scoring will push him into double digit fantasy points this week.
QB Sam Darnold vs. Cardinals
Arizona’s matchup is a bit tougher than average, but Darnold has been more consistent than many realize. Has posted a QB rating above 100 in 9 of 11 starts and has multiple touchdown passes in eight games.
Bengals QB Russell Wilson
I realize Cincinnati is the NFL’s best carnival team — they score a lot, they allow a lot — but Pittsburgh’s offensive identity rarely changes, no matter the game. The Steelers want to run to set up the run, which means Wilson likely won’t break 30 attempts no matter how the game goes. I suppose it’s playable in some places, but I’m not eager to go out on it.
TE Zach Ertz vs. Titans
Normally, I’d be lukewarm on a 34-year-old tight end who specializes in catch-and-drop, but with Austin Ekeler likely out, Ertz will be the first read whenever Jayden Daniels needs a short throw around the middle. field.
🛑 Red light
RB Nick Chubb at Broncos
A touchdown deodorant saved him in Week 12, but he’s been a subpar runner all year, yet to break 60 yards on the ground. We talk a lot about Denver’s pounds, but the Broncos also have a top-five rushing defense.
RB Travis Etienne Jr. vs. Texans
Tank Bigsby is expected to garner playing time again, and Houston’s defense ranks No. 2 in rushing DVOA. Anytime I can proactively avoid 2024 Jaguars, I’m all for it.
TE Mark Andrews vs. Eagles
He had a nifty touchdown on Monday night, but his market share is usually modest when Isaiah Likely is around and Baltimore is unlikely to throw more than 30 passes against anyone. The Eagles have also been excellent in seam coverage all year.
WR Jauan Jennings at Bills
This hurts because I’ve invested a whole year into escaping it. But Brock Purdy is a question mark and the Buffalo area is welcoming a major snowstorm. It’s a good week to bench Jennings, preferably with a ski cap.
