Elon Musk doesn’t hesitate when it comes to Apple. From calling the company “Tesla Graveyard” to criticizing its AI system and reflecting on his unpleasant encounter with Steve Jobs, Musk’s comments make it clear that the competition between these great technologies is personal, professional and competitive.
Back in 2015, during an interview with German newspaper Handelsblatt, Musk mocked Apple’s hiring practices. Commenting on the hiring of former Tesla employees, he said:
“They hired people we fired. We always jokingly call Apple the ‘Tesla Graveyard.’ If you can’t make it to Tesla, you work at Apple I’m not kidding.

This was based on reports that Apple was working on its electric car project, “Titan.” Musk didn’t stop at employee digs; he also questioned Apple’s ability to enter the car industry, saying, “Have you looked at the Apple Watch? No, it’s good that Apple is moving and investing in this direction. But cars are very difficult compared to phones or smartwatches. . You can’t just go to a supplier like Foxconn and say: Build me a car.”
At the time, Apple declined to comment.
Musk’s criticism has not been limited to Apple’s business strategy. In an interview with GQ that year, he recalled meeting Steve Jobs at a party before Jobs’ death in 2011. The meeting was not what Musk was expecting. “[The] “The other time I met Steve Jobs, he was a crazy person,” Musk said.

He later tried to soften his comments, explaining that his observations were based on “personal experience.” He added that Larry Page, a Google co-founder, had introduced him to Jobs several years ago and Jobs may not have known who he was at the time.
Fast-forward to today and Musk’s criticism of Apple has shifted to its push for artificial intelligence. After Apple announced updates to Siri that included integration with OpenAI’s ChatGPT, Musk expressed concerns about user privacy and security. Writing on his platform, X, he called this connection “an unacceptable breach of security” and accused Apple of “not knowing what’s going on.”
