An Abilene man was killed in a motorcycle accident Thursday in Eastland County, according to a Texas Department of Public Safety media release.
Jeffrey Wirt Newman, 72, was thrown from his motorcycle in a single-vehicle crash near Eastland on Thursday afternoon, according to a Friday media release.
DPS’ initial investigation found that Newman was traveling northbound on State Highway 6, driving a 2017 Kawasaki Concours 14.
He hit a construction bomb on the shoulder of the road .4 miles south of Eastland, and was ejected from the motorcycle and died, according to DPS. He was wearing a hat.
Eastland County Justice of the Peace Jon Glenn said Newman died at 4:19 pm Thursday.
Texas Highway Patrol Trooper Michael N. West of Eastland investigated the accident. He was assisted by another trooper and sergeant THP, also from Eastland. The Eastland Police Department and the Eastland County Sheriff’s Office also assisted in the investigation.
