The New York Rangers have officially traded Jacob Trouba to the Anaheim Ducks in exchange for defenseman Urho Vaakanainen and a 2025 fourth-round pick.
It was also confirmed that the Rangers will not retain any of Troub’s salary and his $8 million cap hit.
Rangers general manager Chris Drury released a statement after the trade was completed.
“I want to sincerely thank Jacob for his contribution to Rangers and our community,” said Drury. “Jacob has been an example on and off the ice for our organization and has played a major role in our success over the past several years.
“Since arriving in New York five years ago and serving as captain for the last three seasons, he has shown courage, tenacity and tremendous leadership, and we cannot thank Jacob enough for all he has done for the Rangers.”
Anaheim, on the other hand, is adding an experienced player to a young locker room, which Ducks general manager Pat Verbeek is happy about.
“Jacob is a highly respected player in this league whose character and leadership qualities on and off the ice are second to none,” said Pat Verbeek. “We believe Jacob has many years left in this league and hope he will be a big part of our future success.
“It’s rare that you get a player with Jacob’s experience, stature and ability. On the ice, he competes every shift, leads by example and is present on the blue line every night.”
In 24 games this season, the 30-year-old defenseman has six assists and six points, averaging 20:00 minutes per game.
Vaakanainen was selected in the first round by the Boston Bruins during the 2017 NHL Draft. He has been with the Ducks since being traded by Boston in 2022.
The 25-year-old defenseman has one assist in five games this season with the Ducks, averaging 13:36 minutes.
