Carbon County high-speed chase ends in arrest

TOWAMENSING, CARBON COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) – A man has been arrested after police say he tried to evade arrest by chasing him.

Police say they arrested Christopher Diaz, 35, after initially trying to pull him over in a crosswalk and committing multiple traffic violations.

The man is said to be running from the police, trying to escape from custody

Authorities say after the officer tried to pull Diaz over, he didn’t stop and a 90-mile-per-hour chase ensued.

During the chase, police say they used spike strips, which were successfully placed on Diaz’s car, but the officer lost control of his car when he tried to avoid the spike strips.

According to authorities, Diaz then parked behind the Towamensing Volunteer Fire Company parking lot and was detained.

The police noticed the smell of marijuana in the car.

Diaz was charged with attempting to elude an officer, driving while intoxicated, reckless driving, and other related charges.
