WOODBRIDGE – A 22-year-old Woodbridge man has been charged with attempted murder and aggravated assault after repeatedly hitting his stepfather with a hammer, said Middlesex County Prosecutor Yolanda Ciccone and Director Robert Hubner of the Woodbridge Police Department.
Authorities are continuing to investigate Saturday’s assault.
At 6:42 pm police responded to a home on Sherry Street following a report of an unconscious man with a head injury. Authorities located a 48-year-old township man, who was taken to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick where he is currently in critical condition.

An initial investigation led by Detective Perry Penna of the Woodbridge Police Department and Javier Morillo of the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office found that the step-son, Ronald Javier Polanco-Barrera, struck his step-father several times in the head with a hammer.
Polanco-Barrera was charged with first-degree attempted murder, second-degree aggravated assault, third-degree possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, and fourth-degree unlawful possession of a weapon.
