BUFFALO, NY (WIVB) – Several counties in Western New York have been placed under a State of Emergency amid this week’s snow storm, Governor Kathy Hochul said Friday.

Erie, Chautauqua, Cattaraugus, Genesee, Allegany and Wyoming counties were placed in a State of Emergency just before 2:45 p.m.

“Severe damage” is expected in many towns in Southern Erie County, including in Brant, Eden, Evans, Hamburg and other areas of Orchard Park, Erie County Executive Mark Poloncarz said in a news conference Friday. Northern Erie County is expected to receive six inches at most.

“The snow until Monday is important, but this is not an amount that we cannot handle, because it is falling within two days,” said Poloncarz.

Several other counties in New York have also been placed under a State of Emergency.

Snow is not expected to fall during the Bills’ game on Sunday night, but the area around Highmark Stadium is expected to receive 20-30 inches of snow in the days and hours leading up to the game.

Snow in many areas started on Friday. Several feet of snow is expected in areas outside the lake, including in Southern Erie County and Chautauqua County. The highest-impact potential will mainly target the high elevations south of Rt. 20A starting on Friday. Lake snow begins across Chautauqua County tonight through Friday morning and continues through the weekend.

Those from Buffalo north can expect to see some snow later on Saturday with little totals. Winds on Friday and Saturday are expected to reach 30 mph, creating clear conditions.

Buffalo Mayor Christopher Scanlon announced that the City of Buffalo’s winter parking regulations will go into effect Saturday at 6 a.m.
