A Milwaukee man who falls out of a parking lot, authorities say, starts a search that ends in a crash in Fond du Lac.

A 33-year-old Milwaukee man is in custody in Fond du Lac after authorities say he crashed while exiting a parking lot when they stopped him and led officers on a chase before hitting a civilian.

The man had 10 felony warrants, had recently led Dane County authorities on three different charges, and was known to have a gun, the Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Office said in a statement Friday night.

The incident happened around 4 in the afternoon when a deputy in the police chief’s office saw a car believed to be driven by the man.

According to the sheriff’s office:

The deputy lost control of the vehicle but the vehicle was spotted again, traveling in heavy traffic eastbound on West Johnson Street from Interstate 41 in the city of Fond du Lac.

The deputy continued to follow the vehicle for a short distance before it entered a dead end road and pulled into a parking lot behind a local business. At this point, Fond du Lac deputies and officers began an emergency stop.

Officers attempted to enter the vehicle, but the driver rammed the parked unoccupied vehicle, pushing it out. The car traveled across the crosswalk, through residential yards and through an apartment building, then headed west on Arndt Street.

The sheriff’s office said the driver “had no regard for human life” as he sped through multiple stop signs.

At the intersection of North Peters Avenue and North Berger Parkway, a suspect vehicle collided with a passenger vehicle, causing damage to both vehicles, according to the sheriff’s office. One driver in the accident was slightly injured.

A foot chase ensued before the deputy used a stun gun to stop the man from fleeing, authorities said. The sheriff’s office said the man continued to fight with law enforcement and was trying to kick out the window of the squad car, so officers placed the man in protective gear.

The sheriff’s office said the man will be treated and taken to the Fond du Lac County Jail. No patrol cars were damaged during the chase and no officers were injured.
