Police have arrested a Kentucky teacher accused of sexually abusing a child under the age of 12.
Richard Marzec, 41, works as a teacher in the Nelson County school system, but the abuse happened in Boyle County, where Marzec is accused.
The Boyle County Jail website says Marzec was arrested and booked into the jail on Friday, with the Danville Police Department as the arresting agency. The prison’s website lists the charges against Marzec, but has no details.
Detectives in the case could not be reached for comment Saturday morning, and statements in the case have not yet been posted on the court’s website.
However, Danville police Sgt. Brandon Record said Saturday that as far as he knows, the crime involved a victim who was not a student at the school where Marzec worked. This does not mean that the investigation could not provide more information.
Timothy Crawford, attorney for the Nelson County Board of Education, emphasized Marzec’s role in the district.
Crawford said the school system took action as soon as it learned of the allegations Friday night, suspending Marzec and barring him from school.
A Facebook page with Marzec’s name and photo shows him as a social studies teacher at Old Kentucky Home Middle School in Bardstown.
The jail did not list Marzec’s defense attorney.
