A Kansas City mother talks about her car being stolen from a hotel

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – A woman says her car was stolen from a valet, and she got little help from the hotel and the police.

It happened this past weekend at the Westin. For the past eight years, this mother has gotten used to it, but now she doesn’t have a car.

“I got to 50 and I’ve never had a car stolen, I’ve never had a car stolen and now at 50 I’m like wow,” Gina Hubbell said.

Hubbell is now part of the club that no one wants to be a part of.

“I gave the keys to the valet and said, ‘My car lives up here, don’t forget that,’ and he said, ‘Yes, ma’am.’ I said, ‘It doesn’t go to the garage,’ and he said, ‘Yes, ma’am.’ He said, ‘Yes, I know. ‘It’s written in your account,’” he explained.

At some point, the note he talked about was ignored and his 2020 Dodge Durango SRT body was actually parked in the garage.

Hubbell also claims that the hotel staff did not inform him that the car had been gone for five hours.

“I looked at the operator and said, ‘When did you think it would be a good time to call me?’ No, it’s not our policy,’” he said.

Since the theft, Hubbell filed a police report and posted the car in Stolen KC, a group on Facebook. The car was seen several times and was followed by a GPS tracker.

Hubbell says police told him they couldn’t take it from the property because it was on private property.

Now, the mother of two children is left without a car and few answers. As thieves roam the streets of Kansas City.

“It’s not yours, you didn’t get it,” Hubbell said.

“You stole no matter how you cut it, you are a thief.

FOX4 went to the Westin and spoke with their security director, who said the valet is managed by a third party and the parking garage is managed by the Crown Center. He said he would get back to us with some answers, but at the time of this report, we have not heard any further updates.

KCPD FOX4 reached out and is waiting to hear back.
