MARSHALL COUNTY, Ala. (WHNT) – A former Asbury High employee has been sentenced after having sex with a student in 2023.
According to court documents, Leslie Rains of Albertville was sentenced to 60 months, split to serve six months in the Marshall County Jail with the rest of his sentence suspended. After serving that time in the county jail, Rains will be placed on probation for 52 months.

Kunaya pleaded guilty to having sex with a student under the age of 19 in October.
Rain is also required to register as a prostitute.
In December of 2023, Rains was charged after school officials and SRO deputies received information about a school employee who had engaged in inappropriate behavior with a student.
Sexual intercourse with a student under the age of 19 is a class B felony in Alabama. Rains was placed on a $25,000 property bond and was released from jail a few hours after his arrest.
The sheriff’s office said its investigation began on November 30, 2023.
