DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) – Police are trying to find out who trapped a bulldog inside a garbage bag and abandoned it in Des Moines.
The emaciated dog was found Tuesday afternoon near the railroad tracks with its head sticking out of a black garbage bag. The dog could not walk because the bag was tied with tape.
Police spokesman Sgt. Paul Parizek said in a statement that the man who found the dog said the bag grabbed him because it appeared to be moving.

Parizek said Saturday that the dog is slowly recovering. When the dog was found, it weighed only 23 kilograms (10 kilograms), according to the veterinary staff caring for it.
Investigators are hoping someone will recognize the dog and help lead them to whoever abandoned it. Police said the dog’s ears were cropped, indicating it had received veterinary care earlier in its life.
