Strictly star Chris McCausland’s ‘biggest win’ has nothing to do with dancing

Strictly Come Dancing star Chris McCausland revealed the ‘biggest win’ of his entire journey into the ballroom during an interview with It Takes Two presenter Janette Manrara on Friday 13 December.

For the final episode of the BBC Two spin-off this year, the comedian and his dance partner Dianne Buswell sat down on the sofa to reflect on the unforgettable experience together.

After watching a VT full of lovely messages from his pals, McCausland joked that there is one achievement that stands above all others: getting Everton FC fans to enjoy Liverpool FC’s pre-match anthem You’ll Never Walk Alone.

Manrara said to McCausland after the VT, “Chris, I know you’re emotional, but you have a 25% chance of lifting the Glitterball trophy tomorrow, how much would it mean to you to win?”

The 47-year-old replied with a smile: “You know what, the biggest win here goes to my friend Neil, who was on [the video] and his son Eddie, who is my godson, are big Everton fans.

“For them to appreciate You’ll Never Walk Alone like they did… [Eddie’s mum Ruth] he said he was going to refuse to watch it and he ended up watching it and loved it, so that’s the biggest win I could ever get if the Everton fans like it.”

In the world of football, Everton and Liverpool are bitter local rivals and in October McCausland and Buswell danced to the tune of Gerry and the Pacemakers blaring from the Anfield stadium speakers before every home game.

McCausland added on a more serious note: “But listen, it’s just crazy to be here. It’s been such a ride. It’s going to be emotional tomorrow and yeah, I think whoever wins it, it’s going to be a party.”

The Love Islander told co-host Fleur East all about dancing through the American Smooth of Week 10 during this weekend’s three-show finale, leading to the first perfect 40 score of the series from the judges.

“If anything [it’s] even better 1734118743. I think we both kind of said: actually the way I feel now, there’s no pressure this week to worry about the results or anything, it’s just about the dance. When we both danced it to the music again, we both just smiled.’

The Strictly Come Dancing grand final airs on Saturday 14 December on BBC One from 6pm.
