Erie County plow overturned on Lakeview Road, Route 20

BUFFALO, NY (WIVB) – An Erie County snow plow went into a ditch and overturned at Lakeview Road and Route 20 in Hamburg Thursday morning.

A plow was seen on its side in a ditch after leaving the road.

The plow driver was fine, Erie County Public Works Commissioner Bill Geary said shortly after the crash. There is only one person in the plow districts.

They are working to get that plow back in service, and are bringing another truck into the area to make sure the road stays clear.

“Our drivers are professionals, but these things happen, especially in zero visibility,”
Geary said. “You get a false sense of security when you’re driving through it when the sun comes up, when the sun comes up, but when you get into a situation where there’s no visibility and you try to turn a corner on the road. like this, you cut it a little bit, there’s an open tunnel, the next thing you know you’re in a ditch.”

The lake water storm is bringing heavy snow to areas in Western New York, but especially south of Buffalo and northern Chautauqua County. A snow lake warning is in effect for Erie, Genesee, Wyoming, Chautauqua, and Cattaraugus counties until 1 pm Friday, with 2-3 feet of snow possible in some areas.
