MONTCALM TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) – Two 19-year-olds were injured when a car crashed into a semi-truck trailer Tuesday night in Montcalm Township, deputies say.
It happened at 8:20 pm Tuesday at S. Greenville Road, just south of Spencer Road, according to the Montcalm County Sheriff’s Office.
Investigators say a 2019 Peterbilt tractor-trailer with a loaded box was reversing into the eastbound lane of Greenville Road. As the Peterbilt faced south and the trailer was across the northbound lane, a 2003 Chevy Silverado approached, heading north. The Silverado was unable to stop in time and ended up hitting the side of a box trailer, according to the sheriff’s office.
The driver of the Silverado, a 19-year-old McBride man, and the passenger, a 19-year-old McBride woman, were taken to the hospital with injuries that were not considered life-threatening, deputies said. They say the 19-year-old couple were not wearing seat belts.
The driver of the Peterbilt, described by authorities as a 32-year-old Greenville man, was not injured.
Deputies are investigating. They think that speed was involved in the accident.
