A Wisconsin woman is suing a Grand Strand property and resort after allegedly being bitten by bedbugs during a summer stay.
Milwaukee County resident Pamela Hullum was repeatedly bitten by bedbugs while staying at the Grand Palms Resort on vacation in Myrtle Beach in May, causing physical injuries and psychological injuries, a personal injury lawsuit alleges.
According to its website, Grand Palms Resort offers hotel rooms and condominiums. Although the main address of Grand Palms Resort is 1250 US Highway 17 N. in Surfside Beach, Hullum lived in unit C2 at 233 Presidential Drive in Myrtle Beach, the complaint states.
The unit is operated and maintained by the owner, who has not been identified, and Plantation Resort Villas IV, doing business as Grand Palms Resort, according to a complaint filed in Horry County’s Court of Common Pleas Wednesday. Both the company and the home owner are listed as defendants.
The lawsuit alleges that the woman was bitten several times by bedbugs during her stay at the Grand Palms Resort in May, 2024.
In addition to the repeated bites, Hullum found signs of infestation on the bed, including bed bugs and feces, the suit states.
The complaint states that Grand Palms Resort and the unit owner were notified of the bed bugs, and their home security and pest control confirmed the presence of bed bugs.
As a result of the defendants’ negligence, Hullum suffered emotional distress, permanent scars and loss of enjoyment, according to the lawsuit. Other damages include medical expenses and the cost of cleaning and replacing the equipment he owned.
The lawsuit did not list an amount, but Hullum is seeking compensation for costs, specific damages and punitive damages, “which would be fair and appropriate in the circumstances.”
Grand Palms Resort did not immediately respond to The Sun News’ request for comment.
