Intel’s interim co-CEO Zinsner says the CEO will have first-hand experience

(Reuters) – Intel will have a CEO with design expertise and experience in the product division of the business, interim chief executive David Zinsner said at a UBS technology conference on Wednesday.

Reuters reported on Tuesday that Intel has begun evaluating a handful of outsiders including former board member Lip-Bu Tan to take over the reins of the struggling manufacturer.

Intel’s “core strategy remains strong”, Zinsner said at the conference, two days after the struggling US chipmaker announced the resignation of Pat Gelsinger following impatience with the pace of costly changes.

The company also needs a “significant cultural change” to become a successful innovation player in the semiconductor business, Intel’s head of manufacturing and supply chain Naga Chandrasekaran said.
