MARATHON COUNTY, Wis. (WFRV) – The remains of Cassandra Ayon, who went missing on October 3, 2020, have been found in Marathon County.
According to a press release from the Wisconsin Department of Justice (WisDOJ), Ayon’s body was found in a private area near County Highway P and Abe Lincoln Road in the town of Brighton on November 30.
Attorney General Josh Kaul expressed sympathy for Ayon’s loved ones, thanking those who worked hard on the case.
Clark County District Attorney Melissa Inlow shared that this discovery brings closure. “We hope that his remaining discovery will provide a sense of closure to his family and to everyone who mourns him,” he said.

In September 2022, Jesus Contreras-Perez of Mosinee, WI was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole for Ayon’s murder. According to the WisDOJ, he was convicted of first-degree intentional homicide, burying a corpse, and stalking causing bodily harm.

The press release notes that cooperation between the Wisconsin Department of Justice, local sheriff’s offices, the Clark County District Attorney’s Office, and other agencies resulted in the recovery of Ayon’s remains.
The discovery marks the end of a four-year search and brings some answers to those mourning the terrible loss of Ayon.
