Jets cornerback DJ Reed points the finger at the officials after the New York Jets’ 26-21 loss to the Seattle Seahawks on Sunday.
The Jets, scoreless after halftime, were peppered with penalties throughout the game and especially in the second half. The referee encouraged Reed to express his displeasure on social media shortly after the game ended.
In a post on X, Reed tagged the NFL Officiating account with a censored expletive. “You whore, you should all be ashamed of yourselves!” Reed wrote.
New York finished the game with 12 penalties, resulting in a loss of 83 yards compared to the Seahawks’ five penalties for 50 yards.
One of those penalties on the Jets was an early holding on Reed, who was flagged in the first quarter while covering Seattle receiver Tyler Lockett. The drive later resulted in the Seahawks’ first touchdown of the game.
Four Jets penalties led to Seattle first downs, including several fourth-and-shorts and other high-impact situations. Midway through the fourth quarter, a big fourth-and-one stop by the Jets was overturned by a horse-collar tip to Seahawks running back Zach Charbonnet, who stepped in for the game-winning touchdown on the same recovered drive.
A former Seahawk for two seasons, Reed finished the game with a strong stat line against his former team, collecting four of his seven solo tackles and a pass deflection. But his success hasn’t carried over to the rest of New York, who have fallen to 3-9 and are now guaranteed their ninth straight loss.
