FORT PIERCE – A sheriff’s deputy and a city police officer suffered serious, non-life-threatening injuries during a crash in Fort Pierce on Saturday night, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
This event took place as the deputy of St. Lucie County Sheriff and Fort Pierce Police were standing outside their vehicles during the traffic stop at US 1 and North 25th Street. At 11:25 p.m. Saturday, a 41-year-old Vero Beach man was driving north on 25th Street in the right lane, when he failed to yield and struck the back of a sheriff’s car, FHP said.
The collision caused the deputy’s vehicle to ram into two other law enforcement vehicles and the two police officers, FHP said.
The driver involved in the crash, whose name has not been released, was arrested and charged with driving under the influence, FHP said.
