Israel and Hezbollah on Thursday accused each other of violating the ceasefire agreement agreed yesterday to end more than a year of fighting.
Israel said it opened fire on “suspects” in vehicles approaching areas in southern Lebanon, Reuters reported, while Hezbollah accused Israeli forces of attacking people returning to border villages.
The areas where the new fighting occurred were said to be within two kilometers of the border between Lebanon and Israel.
The 60-day truce was agreed by the US and France on Wednesday, and was described by the President, Mr. Joe Biden, as “designed to completely stop the hostility” 14 months into the conflict between Israel and Hezbollah. However, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu warned on Wednesday that his forces would resume fighting if Hezbollah violates the terms of the agreement, and accusing each other of violating the agreement shows the fragility of peace in the region.
