More than 20 years after his death at the age of 77, part of Charles M. Schulz’s onetime Northern California estate has recently been discovered. He is a famous cartoonist, the creator of the iconic Nuts comic strip, he acquired a bucolic 28-acre property in the Sonoma County town of Sebastopol in the early 1960s at the height of his career. The settlement came to be known as the Coffee Grounds, due to its location on Coffee Lane. A portion of the land where Schulz’s studio stood on the subdivided lot sold last year for about $4 million, and now a large home-built parcel nearby is being picked up for less than $3.3 million.
Occupied by Schulz and his family from the mid-1960s to the early 1970s, following their move from Minnesota to California, the modern home was last sold in 1985 to the late singer Jack Stuppin and his wife Diane and was extensively renovated. . Designed by the architectural firm of Steele & Van Dyk, the redwood, Douglas fir, and lava stone building has six bedrooms and seven baths in more than 6,800 square feet of living space that still retains a retro Jack-and- Jill bath sporting a vintage hair-wash sink from at Schulz’s touch.

Situated on nine hectares of land surrounded by mature trees and vineyards, about 15 minutes west of Santa Rosa, the split-level living space is characterized by a fireplaced living room that leads up to a combined entertaining and dining area with sliding glass doors. opening to a large deck. The adjacent kitchen is equipped with an eat-in island complete with ceramic tiles and a breakfast nook.
