Devastated Southern California family of man, 21, killed in mass shooting, heat says.

Family members of one of the teenagers killed in a mass shooting and arson attack in Lancaster earlier this month are mourning their loss and, at the same time, celebrating 21 years with their loved one.

Matthew Montebello, a talented musician who was practicing medicine, was among the three other victims – Edwin Garcia, along with sisters Christine Aca-ac and Janvi Maquindang – who were allegedly shot and killed by a former houseboy, 19-year-old Miguel. Sandoval, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.

The incident happened on November 16, when deputies responded to a home in the 44500 block of Tabler Avenue in Lancaster around 1:30 a.m. when shots were fired.

The first responders with fire and smoke arrived at the house.

LA County Fire Department crews were able to control the fire and found five victims, three of whom suffered gunshot wounds and were pronounced dead at the scene. Another person who was injured by the gun died at the hospital.

The fifth victim, a 16-year-old sister from Aca-ac and Maquindang, was not physically injured. He hid in a closet during the incident and called 911.

The researchers once believed that these young people were having a party, but now they say that a 19-year-old man entered the house while everyone was sleeping.

Authorities said Sandoval fled the home after the shooting and was arrested hours later.

Celeste Montebello, Matthew’s mother, said she had just celebrated the 21-year-old’s birthday six days before the incident.

“Home is a safe place for us, for us, and for someone to go there and do this to them while they’re sleeping, it’s heartbreaking,” she told KTLA’s Jennifer McGraw.

A year later, Matthew’s brother Andrew said they were best friends and that the pain was unimaginable.

“Some of mine are dead or dying,” he said. “I don’t think I’ll ever be the same.”

Andrew said that Matthew was a master of mathematics, a master of mathematics, very creative and received many honors, even as a child.

“It’s full of character, it’s so smart, it’s so badass,” Celeste added.

While trying to navigate the unbearable pain of losing Mateo, Celeste and Andrew said they had one last message for the person who took a family member from them.

“I want this bad man to know that he failed, he didn’t succeed in doing this,” Celeste told KTLA.

He added that even though Matthew is gone, he will live on in others. His son’s kidney is going to one of his friends to try to save his life.

“It means that I see my friend every day, God willing, if the surgeries are successful,” he said.

GoFundMe campaigns for the families of Matthew Montebello, Edwin Garcia and siblings Christine Aca-ac and Janvi Maquindang have been set up to help with the costs of laying their loved ones to rest.

The case is scheduled to be forwarded to the LA County District Attorney’s Office for review on Nov. 25.
